Education

I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2004 with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. I also focused many of my electives on journalism and Native American culture.

Experience

I have enjoyed tutoring since the minute I began working for the number one ACT prep company in the state of Colorado. I specialize in private ACT and academic tutoring, and I also teach ACT prep classes along with Driver's Ed classes. I worked as an editor and writer for over three years at a local newspaper in Southwest Florida which helped perfect my English, reading and writing skills. I received numerous national and state awards for both my writing and editing skills. I have also taken prep courses for both the ACT and GRE to get to know the material better and keep my mind fresh. Tutoring gives me great satisfaction on many levels. I love to analyze how students learn best and focus on that type of learning to bring them success. I love seeing those "aha!" moments where students truly grasp a concept. It is also rewarding to see them gain self confidence through positive reinforcement. When students believe in themselves they can achieve anything!

Hobbies

I am an avid reader of all things regarding the environment and politics. I am always searching for "real news" to keep myself truly informed. I believe it is important to keep my mind active so I work through the daily crossword puzzle and sudoku offered by the Chicago Tribune. I enjoy nature and being outside as much as possible. Hiking, biking, skiing and camping are just a taste of some of the outdoor activities I enjoy. I have been practicing yoga for about five years now, and it has taught me how to calm my mind and live in the present. This is something any student can benefit from, especially those with test anxiety. I am currently raising two hens from baby chicks, learning about the process as I move along. In about a year from now we will have fresh eggs on a daily basis. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends and, of course, my sweet and loving dog Karma.
